Kolkata: The West Bengal state budget is set to be presented soon, and a major announcement could be on the way. While women in the state have been receiving ₹1,000 or ₹1,200 per month under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, reports suggest that this time, men might also benefit from a similar initiative.
Currently, Lakshmir Bhandar provides financial assistance to women from economically weaker backgrounds, and it has become one of the most popular welfare schemes in Bengal. However, sources indicate that the government is now considering a financial aid program for unemployed men to help them secure job opportunities. This could be in the form of a monthly allowance or a job-oriented support scheme.

With the 2026 assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to make significant welfare announcements in this budget. If a scheme for men is introduced, it could be a game-changer in Bengal's social welfare policies.
However, official confirmation is still awaited. Whether this remains just speculation or turns into a reality will be revealed once the budget is presented. All eyes are on February 12 for the much-anticipated announcement.
