Wrestler Sushil Kumar

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted to Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar in connection with the murder of fellow wrestler Sagar Dhankad. The apex court has directed Kumar to surrender to the authorities within seven days.
Kumar was arrested in 2021 after being accused of involvement in the death of Dhankad during a brawl at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. The case drew national attention due to Kumar’s prominence in Indian sports, with prosecutors alleging that he played a direct role in the assault that led to Dhankad’s death.
The Delhi High Court had granted him bail, but the decision was challenged, leading to the Supreme Court’s intervention. The apex court’s order effectively overturns the earlier relief, citing the seriousness of the charges and the need to ensure an unhindered trial process.
