New Delhi: In a major leadership change, Shubman Gill was on Saturday named captain of the Indian ODI cricket team for the upcoming tour of Australia, replacing senior batter Rohit Sharma. The decision marks a significant transition in the team’s leadership ahead of one of the most challenging tours on the international calendar.
Despite the captaincy change, both Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli have been included in the squad, ensuring that India’s experienced players continue to contribute to the team’s performance. Cricket analysts suggest that Gill’s appointment reflects the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) strategy to groom a younger generation of leaders while maintaining a balance of experience in the squad.
