President Murmu Awards Mohammad Shami
BY A STAFF REPORTER: Mohammad Shami, Ojas Pravin Deotale, and Sheetal Devi were among other sportspersons who were conferred upon Arjuna Award for their exceptional performance in various sports in the national sports awards ceremony held on 9th January Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
President Draupadi Murmu conferred the Arjuna Award upon 17 athletes for their performance in their respective sports fields. Mohammad Shami, the fast bowler who impressed the whole nation with his performance as a leading wicket-taker in the latest ICC Cricket World Cup, Sheetal Devi, who is the maiden and only international Para-archery champion without upper limbs, Archer and Gold-Medallist Ojas Pravin Deotale who stands at the 9th position globally along with others were the awardees.
The Arjuna Award is the 2nd-highest sports recognition in the country after the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award. The Arjuna Awardees are also rewarded a cash price of Rs. 15,00,000 along with a bronze statue of Arjuna and a ceremonial dress.
