Bengaluru, Karnataka – Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra expressed high hopes and personal ambition ahead of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a premier athletics tournament set to be held in Bengaluru. In a statement shared ahead of the championship, Chopra spoke about the strategic vision behind the event and its potential to transform India’s athletics landscape.
“The main reason for choosing Bangalore as the venue for the championship is to elevate the level of Indian sprints and track and field,” said Chopra. “Bangalore is an excellent city for this event — the weather is ideal, airport connectivity is convenient, and we have strong support from the sports department and the Karnataka government.”
Chopra also highlighted the enthusiastic sports culture in the city, stating, “The people here are incredibly passionate about sports, which makes Bangalore the perfect choice for hosting the championship.”
Organising and competing simultaneously is no easy task, he admitted. “The toughest part is the training, coordinating, and communicating with athletes to continuously improve the event. But I am confident in my ability to manage these challenges and perform well,” he added.
Looking ahead to the competition, Chopra revealed his primary goal — breaking his own personal record in javelin throw. “I had a throwing session yesterday, and I’m focused on delivering a strong performance,” he said.
Beyond his individual aspirations, Chopra envisions the Neeraj Chopra Classic as a powerful platform that will bring Indian athletes face-to-face with international competitors. “This league will inspire other athletes by showcasing competition alongside international talent, motivating them to raise their own standards.”
