India reclaimed the Men’s Asia Cup hockey title after an eight-year wait, defeating defending champions South Korea 4-1 in a commanding final on Sunday. The victory not only handed India the continental crown but also secured qualification for next year’s FIH World Cup.
From the outset, the Indian side appeared determined to set the tone of the match. They maintained possession, created multiple scoring opportunities, and capitalized on them with efficiency. South Korea, known for their defensive resilience, struggled to contain India’s attacking momentum as the goals kept coming.
The win marks a significant achievement for the Indian team, which has been working toward building consistency ahead of major international tournaments. For India, this triumph was more than just a trophy; it was a statement of intent as they prepare for bigger challenges on the global stage.
Indian Men’s Hockey Coach Craig Fulton praised the team’s performance, highlighting their ability to stay patient and break down South Korea’s defense. “Super proud of the boys. We controlled the play better and were a bit more patient. We created a lot of chances, and we scored four goals, which is a lot more than we did the other night when we played them,” he said. “Korea is a good team. They play deep, they play defensively. It’s hard to break them down, but we took our chances, and four goals are enough in the final.”
