New Delhi: The 2025 Asia Cup has plunged into uncertainty as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to withdraw from all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournaments, including the Men’s Asia Cup scheduled for September 2025. The move comes amid escalating diplomatic and military tensions between India and Pakistan, and growing public sentiment against bilateral sports ties.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the BCCI has communicated its intent to disengage from both the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scheduled in Sri Lanka next month, and the more high-profile Men’s Asia Cup, expected to be hosted by India later this year. The ACC is currently chaired by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)—a development the BCCI reportedly finds untenable.

A senior BCCI official was quoted stating, “The Indian team cannot participate in a tournament organised by the ACC, whose president is a Pakistani minister. That reflects the prevailing national sentiment.” The BCCI further clarified that any future participation would depend on consultation with the Indian government.

This bold stance could derail the Asia Cup entirely, as India's presence is considered commercially indispensable. The India vs Pakistan clash is the most anticipated and viewed fixture in world cricket, often attracting massive sponsorship and viewership. Hosting the event without India could severely undermine its viability.
