By Avideep Nandi Majumdar: Manchester City treble winning captain IIkay Gundogan has joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Manchester City. He has signed a 3 year contract after having rejected a deal to stay in Manchester City. Treble winning Manchester City manager was keen to keep Gundogan in City and had also expressed his desire to reporters. He said he wanted Gundogan to stay and was interested in renewing his contract and City were fighting to keep hold of him.

City had offered Gundogan a new one year contract with option of further 12 years but due to his wage demands and Barcelona offering him 3 years meant City had to release their captain. He was Pepe Guadiolas first signing in 2016. Gundogan leaves with 14 trophies in his 7 years service to Manchester City.
