New Delhi: Hockey India Secretary Bhola Nath Singh has expressed strong support for the recently introduced National Sports Bill, describing it as well-structured and comprehensive. Singh contrasted it with the 2011 version of the bill, which he said lacked clarity and structure, leading to difficulties in implementation and its eventual failure to pass in Parliament.
According to Singh, the new legislation clearly outlines responsibilities for players, sports associations, and overall sports development. He said that after a detailed review, Hockey India found the bill to be a significant improvement, capable of addressing long-standing governance issues in Indian sports. Singh also extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and their team for their role in bringing the bill forward.
On the question of Pakistan’s participation in hockey tournaments hosted in India, Singh said that both Hockey India and the Indian government had fulfilled their responsibilities. He noted that the decision now rests with Pakistan and its government on whether to send teams to compete.
