West London side Chelsea fc secured a 4-2 shootout victory over fellow Premier League rivals Newcastle United FC to book their place in the semi finals of Carbao cup. It was Newcastle United who took the lead at Stamford Bridge as former Bournemouth man Callum Wilson capitalised on some woeful defending from Benoít Badiashile to put Newcastle in front. Chelsea continued missing opportunities, with Raheem Steeling missing. Connor Gallagher hit the post, Armand Brojas goal was disallowed due to offside. Sterling had a shot cleared off the line by Bruno Guimaràes. In the second half, the same pattern continued, as Nicholas Jackson put an effort wide and Sterling drew a fine save. Just when it looked like Chelsea were heading out of the competition, Kieran Tripper gifted Chelsea the equaliser as he gave the ball mistakenly to Mudryk, who slotted in. In the penalty shootout, Djordje Petrovic emerged as the hero, as he saved Matt Ritchies penalty and Kieran Tripper put his penalty wide, as Chelsea converted all their penalties.
