New Delhi: Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has voiced his support for the recently introduced National Sports Governance Bill and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The bills, tabled in Parliament earlier this year, aim to reform sports administration and strengthen measures to combat doping in Indian sports.

Bhutia, a prominent figure in Indian football and a long-time advocate for structural reforms in sports, emphasised the importance of transparency and the inclusion of all major sports bodies under the ambit of the governance framework. He noted that reforms in sports management could help improve India’s performance at global events, including the Olympics, by ensuring that qualified and accountable individuals lead sports federations.

The National Sports Governance Bill seeks to set uniform standards for governance, ethics, and selection processes across sports bodies, while the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill proposes stricter compliance with international anti-doping norms and enhanced testing mechanisms.
