Manchester, July 22: As England prepares to face India in the fourth Test of the ongoing series, Men’s Test captain Ben Stokes addressed media queries regarding the high-intensity moments witnessed during the third Test at Lord’s. His comments sought to strike a balance between competitive spirit and strategic discipline.
Reflecting on the verbal and on-field exchanges during the previous Test, Stokes stated, “As I said, it's not something that we're going to purposely go out and look to start because then that will take our focus off what we actually need to do out in the middle.”
While downplaying any intent to provoke, Stokes emphasized that England would not shy away from standing their ground if challenged by the opposition. “By no means, we're not going to take a backwards step and let any opposition try to be confrontational towards us. And not try to give a bit back. I think that goes for most teams, to be honest anyway,” he added.
The third Test saw moments of tension between players from both sides, with sledging and aggressive celebrations drawing attention from commentators and fans alike. However, no disciplinary actions were taken.
