Mumbai | Following India's disappointing loss in the Boxing Day Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla voiced concerns over the team’s performance and a controversial umpiring decision. Speaking to the media, Shukla stated, “Today’s result is disappointing. We were hopeful of winning the Boxing Day Test match.”
He acknowledged the efforts of the bowlers, emphasizing their commendable performance. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the batting lineup. “Our bowlers performed well, but the batting lineup did not perform that well,” Shukla remarked.
A major point of contention was the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shukla criticized the third umpire's decision, which overturned the on-field umpire's ruling. “The controversial decision of giving Yashasvi Jaiswal out when he was not out… The technical committee of the ICC should look into this and find a solution,” he said, emphasizing that such decisions require strong justification.
Looking ahead, Shukla highlighted the importance of focusing on the upcoming Sydney Test. “Now, we should look at the Sydney Test,” he added, urging the team and fans not to judge players based on one or two series but rather on their overall performance.
The BCCI VP’s remarks underline the significance of fair adjudication in cricket and the need to maintain player morale as Team India prepares for the next crucial match in the series.
