New Delhi | The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ombudsman, Justice Arun Mishra (Retd), has directed Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to submit formal replies to a complaint alleging gross negligence and violation of safety protocols during RCB’s victory celebration event on June 4 in Bengaluru.
The complaint, filed in the wake of a stampede that occurred during the celebratory gathering, has raised serious concerns regarding the planning and crowd management of the event. The incident, which took place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulted in the death of 11 people and left over 50 others injured, many of them critically.
Justice Mishra has sought detailed explanations from both RCB and KSCA about the sequence of events, precautionary measures taken, and their preparedness to handle large crowds. The directive from the Ombudsman comes amid mounting public outcry and demands for accountability from fans, civil society groups, and political leaders.
