In a candid discussion about Virat Kohli's recent struggles during the Test series against New Zealand, former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan provided insights into what he believes is a temporary setback for the star batsman. Kohli, who has been a cornerstone of the Indian cricket team, has faced criticism for his form, especially following the home series loss.
Wassan acknowledged Kohli's track record and emphasized that he doesn't require additional motivation to succeed. "I don't think Virat needs motivation; we all know what drives him. He wants to do the best for India, and I am sure he will be the first person to raise his hand when he feels that he does not deserve a spot," Wassan stated. This perspective highlights Kohli's commitment to the team and his awareness of performance expectations.
Reflecting on Kohli's recent dismissals, Wassan pointed out that the nature of the game can sometimes lead to unfortunate circumstances. He described Kohli's dismissal to a full toss and subsequent run-out as instances of "brain fade" that can happen to any player during a bad phase. "This is just a very bad phase for him... these things happen when the bad patch comes, no matter what you do," Wassan explained.
Looking ahead to the upcoming series in Australia, Wassan expressed optimism, stating, "I am sure he is going to get a lot of runs there." He emphasized the importance of not letting the recent struggles affect Kohli's mental state. "I just hope that this will not scar his psyche going to Australia; he is a big player," he added.
