By a Staff Reporter: Every year 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day by Indians with great pride. But do you know why January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day? India was freed from British rule on August 15, 1947. But, the Constitution of India was adopted in 1950. The Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950. A sovereign people-democratic India was formed. That is, from this day the Constitution changes India into a sovereign republic. As a result, 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day.
