Uttarakhand Cabinet Clears Uniform Civil Code Report

In a recent development, the Uttarakhand ministers cleared the Uniform Civil Code draft report in a cabinet meeting held at the residence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on 4th February in Dehradun.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent development, the Uttarakhand ministers cleared the Uniform Civil Code draft report in a cabinet meeting held at the residence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on 4th February in Dehradun. The bill will likely be tabled in the state assembly on 6th February.

Earlier, Dhami revealed that the Draft report for the Uniform Civil Code is 740 pages long and is in four volumes. He further informed that 2,33,000 people provided recommendations regarding the report. The UCC Drafting committee, headed by Ranjana Prakash Desai, submitted the report to the CM on Friday

Furthermore, the Assam government is also planning to implement UCC after Uttarakhand. 

The controversial Uniform Civil Code's purpose is to establish a uniform legal framework for all citizens irrespective of their faith or religion. As of now, laws regarding marriage, succession, and divorce are based on various religions.
