Saugata Roy

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy on Thursday strongly endorsed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent criticism of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that her remarks represent the official position of the party. Speaking in Delhi, Roy reiterated the TMC’s allegations that Shah is responsible for what the party claims is an attempt to manipulate voter lists through a mechanism referred to as “SIR.”
“Mamata Banerjee is our party supremo, and whatever she says is the voice of the party,” Roy said, defending her comments made earlier in the week. He accused Amit Shah of acting in an “anti-democratic” manner, alleging that the so-called SIR system was being used with the intent to delete genuine voters’ names from the electoral rolls.
“We consider Amit Shah an anti-democratic person, and we believe he is behind this ‘SIR’ that intends to delete people's names from the electoral rolls,” Roy stated, without elaborating on specifics of the alleged process.
