BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant move, West Bengal LoP and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari urged the CBI to probe into a 'confiscated' phone of Shahjahan Sheikh on 9th March, Saturday.

Taking it to his X handle, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that a police official named 'Aminul' had confiscated Sheikh's 'iPhone 3' before his initial arrest and subsequently handed it over to senior police officials. However, Adhikari stated that his 'reliable' source is unsure if the phone is currently in their custody or has been destroyed. Adhikari also provided a phone number which was allegedly used by Sheikh to contact the top brass of TMC through that phone. With this, Suvendu Adhikari implies that Shahjahan Sheikh was under the shelter of CM Mamata Banerjee before his initial arrest by West Bengal police. He requested CBI to investigate the matter.

The CBI took over Sandeshkhali accused Shahjahan Sheikh's custody from the West Bengal CID after the second order of the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday transferred the Sandeshkhali case including the attack on ED sleuths and allegations on Shahjahan Sheikh to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Prime accused in the Sandeshkhali matter, Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on 29th February, Thursday. He was suspended for six years by the Trinamool Congress.

A village located in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Sandeshkhali is witnessing significant clashes and violence following allegations of systematic sexual exploitations and land-grabbing committed by TMC leaders, Shahjahan Sheikh, Shibu Hazara and Uttam Sardar. Shahjahan Sheikh remained absconding since 5th January after an ED team was attacked by a large mob while conducting raids at Shahjahan's residence.
