KOLKATA, August 8 — The Kolkata General Post Office today witnessed a cultural tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as the Department of Posts released a special set of picture postcards themed “Rain and Tagore.” The launch forms part of the ongoing Forever in Letters campaign, aimed at rekindling the art of handwritten communication and inspiring philately among the younger generation.

The release coincided with the monsoon season and Tagore’s death anniversary, observed on 22 Shravana. Known for his lyrical portrayal of rain and its emotional undertones, Tagore’s works often depict the monsoon as a symbol of romance, nostalgia, and renewal.

Shri Ashok Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, West Bengal Circle, unveiled the postcards in the presence of dignitaries and cultural figures. In his address, he spoke about the deep association between Tagore and the postal service, noting that letters and the post office held a special place in the poet’s heart. “The emotional bond between the Post Office and the public finds expression in Tagore’s writings,” he said, adding that in an age dominated by instant digital messages, handwritten letters carry unmatched personal warmth.

The postcards, featuring evocative imagery inspired by Tagore’s monsoon writings, seek to blend literature, nature, and emotion. Organisers hope the release will encourage young people to embrace letter-writing as a meaningful form of expression while honoring one of India’s greatest literary icons.
