High court orders formation of SIT in Kaliaganj juvenile girl murder

SIT will now look into the matter regarding the tragic death of a rape victim in Kaliaganj. The team is asked to carry on investigation under the surveillance of high court.

Case  Filed challenging SSC Act in Calcutta High Court

By a staff reporter: Concerning the investigation into the tragic death of a rape victim in Kaliaganj, Uttar Dinajpur, on April 20-21, 2023, the Calcutta High Court today directs formation of SIT comprising Shri Upendra Nath Biswas, Fmr. Addl. Dir., CBI, Shri Pankaj Dutta, Fmr. IG and Smt. Damayanti Sen, IPS. 

The petitioners pointed out the discrepancies in the inquest report and the postmortem report and said SIT can go for second post mortem of the body, as per the direction of the court. The SIT has been given all powers to investigate under the CrPC. The Director General of West Bengal & Kaliaganj P.S. have been asked to extend all cooperation with the SIT. Justice Rajasekhar Mantha orders Kaliaganj police to tighten security of the minor girl's family in this case. The papers are to be supplied to the SIT as and when called for. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights & the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights will make their representations before the SIT. The team will file its report before the Court on June 28, 2023.
