Review Petition Filed Against SC's Verdict On Article 370's Abrogation

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Awami National Conference's Muzzafar Shah has challenged the Supreme Court's judgment on the abrogation of article 370 on 10th January Wednesday.

Shah has filed a petition seeking a review of the Top Court's judgment where they maintained the validity of the Central Government's decision to revoke Article 370 which gave special status to the former state of Jammu & Kashmir. Moreover, Muzzafar emphasized that Article 370 cannot be 'killed'. 

Overall 23 petitions were filed in the top court challenging the validity and constitutionality of the government's decision to abrogate Article 370. Consequently, A bench consisting of five judges unanimously upheld the validity of the Government's decision to revoke Article 370 in December last year.

Moreover, on 5th August 2019, A presidential order was passed to abrogate the article 370, and making all provisions of Indian Constitution applicable in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequently, The state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories; the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh based on the Jammu Kashmir Reorganisation Act passed on 6th August 2019.
