NIA Arrests Key PFI Fugitive in Professor Palm-Chopping Case

The key conspirator, Savad was the last absconding accused in the case and had been a fugitive for 13 years. Moreover, he had rs. 10 lakh as a bounty on his head.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday arrested the key conspirator in Kerala in Kannur's Mattannur, Kerala in connection with the professor's attempted murder case of 2010.

The key conspirator, Savad was the last absconding accused in the case and had been a fugitive for 13 years. Moreover, he had rs. 10 lakh as a bounty on his head. As of now, 19 accused have been found guilty of numerous offenses under the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967. Furthermore, three of them have been granted life imprisonment while 10 others have been awarded 8 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine. 

The infamous case stems back to 2010 when a few members of Popular Front of India disarticulated Professor TJ Joseph's wrist on allegations of blasphemy on 4th July 2010. Subsequently, a charge sheet was filed against Savad 10th January 2011, exactly 13 years ago
