BY A STAFF REPORTER: Days after the incident, Maharashtra's Governor Ramesh Bais on Thursday emphasized the importance of NCC for instilling discipline and patriotism in children.

While addressing the felicitation ceremony of the Governor's citation to NCC Directorate Maharashtra, Bais stated "Personally speaking, I would like NCC to be made compulsory in all schools and colleges across the country. In the Pune accident, had the child (minor accused) been an NCC cadet this accident would not have occurred. A sense of discipline and patriotism that gets instilled in children, the sense of dedicating oneself to the country is foremost for all of us. If the child is disciplined, he will be disciplined and follow the right path."

In a tragic incident, an inebriated 17-year-old crashed his Porsche Taycan car into two motorbike riders, resulting in the latter's death on May 19 in Pune's Kalyan Nagar, Maharashtra.
