Morally, Constitutionally Wrong: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor On CAA
Shashi Tharoor asserted that the INDIA Bloc would withdraw this provision if they came to power. Tharoor also extended his support to the Indian Union Muslim League who sought stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024 in the Supreme Court.
BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent statement, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday slammed the newly implemented Citizenship Amendment Act, remarking that it is morally and constitutionally wrong.
Moreover, Shashi Tharoor asserted that the INDIA Bloc would withdraw this provision if they came to power. Tharoor also extended his support to the Indian Union Muslim League who sought stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024 in the Supreme Court. He further stressed that the party will not allow the introduction of religion into the citizenship and nation's life.

The Central Government declared the implementation of the controversial CAA Act on 11th March, Monday. Furthermore, it notified the rules for its implementation. The Citizenship Amendment Act allows the granting of Indian Citizenship to migrants who faced persecution in other countries and belong to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities.
