BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a significant development, the Maharashtra Assembly passed the Maratha Reservation Bill in education and jobs on 20th February, Tuesday.

Tabled by CM Eknath Shinde in a special one-day session, the bill advocates 10% reservation to the Maratha community in education and government jobs.

However, the bill has been subjected to debates and demands for additional reservations for other communities, such as Muslims. Moreover, the passed bill may have implications for the existing reservation system in the country.
