BY A STAFF REPORTER: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written another letter to Prime Minister Modi demanding a 'stringent' central law and exemplary punishment for heinous crimes such as rape and murder, and the resolution of cases within a specific timeframe. She wrote:

"Dear Prime Minister,

MODI MAMATA.jpg

Could you kindly recall my letter dated August 22, 2024, letter no. 44-CM (attached) concerning the need for stringent central laws for rape cases and exemplary punishment for perpetrators of such crimes?

PM Modi

I have not received any response from your side on this sensitive issue. However, I have received a response from the Union Minister for Women and Child Development (letter no. 1/RESC/HMWCD/2024 dated August 25, 2024), which barely addresses the significance of the issues raised in my letter. I believe that this generic response fails to adequately appreciate the gravity of the matter and its relevance to society."
