KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday escalated her attack on the Centre, calling Union Home Minister Amit Shah “dangerous” and alleging attempts to manipulate the electoral process through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls. She warned that she would personally sit on a dharna if even a single eligible voter’s name was deleted from the list.
Addressing a public event, Banerjee expressed strong concerns over what she described as politically motivated interference in the voter verification process. “Amit Shah is dangerous. If any eligible voter’s name is struck off, I will sit on a dharna myself,” the Trinamool Congress chief declared.
She accused the BJP of attempting to tamper with the electoral rolls to gain political advantage ahead of the upcoming elections. “We will not allow anyone to snatch away the rights of the people of Bengal,” Banerjee said, urging officials to conduct the SIR process transparently and without bias.
Banerjee also directed her party workers to remain vigilant and assist citizens in ensuring their names remain on the rolls. “No one should lose their democratic rights due to deliberate targeting or negligence,” she added.
