Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Border Security Force (BSF) of facilitating infiltration from Bangladesh, alleging it is part of a central government "blueprint" to destabilize the state. Her sharp remarks have drawn a strong rebuttal from the BSF, which maintains it is committed to protecting the nation’s borders with diligence and integrity.
Addressing a public event, Banerjee said, “The BSF, instead of guarding the border, is facilitating infiltration as part of a larger central government plan to destabilize West Bengal. This blueprint is aimed at creating unrest in the state.”
The allegations come amidst ongoing political tensions between the Trinamool Congress-led state government and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government. Banerjee has often accused the Centre of using federal agencies and institutions to interfere in state matters.
In response, the BSF categorically denied the charges, stating that the force is committed to its mandate of ensuring border security. “The BSF diligently guards the country's borders, and any allegations of facilitating infiltration are baseless and misleading,” a BSF spokesperson said in an official statement.
