Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has welcomed Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement of a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000 for priests and granthis under the ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojna.’ Ghosh drew parallels between the scheme and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s governance approach, praising the direct benefits to citizens.

“Arvind Kejriwal has been influenced by Mamata Banerjee's development model, and this is good that he wants to give direct benefits to the people of Delhi,” Ghosh stated.

The AAP government’s initiative to provide financial assistance to religious leaders has been well-received in Delhi, with many drawing comparisons to similar welfare measures in West Bengal. Under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, schemes like the financial assistance to imams and priests have garnered significant attention as part of her inclusive development strategy.

Ghosh’s remarks highlight the TMC’s pride in its governance model, which has been positioned as a benchmark for social welfare policies across India. By aligning Kejriwal’s move with Mamata’s strategies, Ghosh emphasized the influence of West Bengal’s development narrative on national politics.

The ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojna’ is expected to benefit hundreds of priests and granthis in Delhi, fostering goodwill among religious communities. Meanwhile, the exchange between TMC and AAP reflects the growing camaraderie between regional parties focusing on people-centric governance.
