Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 8, Haldia, conducted a two days Regional workshop on Maritime Search And Rescue (M-SAR) for all the stakeholders of the state of West Bengal on 09-10 Aug 23. The work shop was attended by representatives of various agencies that is INMCC, INCOIS, NAVY, ATM CATC, BSF, CISF, Customs, IMD, KoPT, Haldia Port , Fisheries dept and other stake holders.
Indian Coast Guard is the nodal agency in the country for Martime search and rescue in the Indian EEZ. The workshop organised at Haldia aimed at sharing of expertise, so as to improve coordination and enhance readiness amongst various agencies towards combating Maritime SAR along the coast of West Bengal.The workshop also aimed at analysing maritime incidents/accidents.
The workshop was inaugurated by DIG Kanwaljit Singh, TM, Commander Coast Guard, District West Bengal. Shri Dushyant Nariala, IAS, Principal Secretary Disaster Management and Civil Defence, was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest applauded all the participants and emphasized the need of such workshops which aim at fostering excellence in maritime safety and better coordination amongst agencies for providing effective Maritime SAR and thus making our oceans safe.
The workshop included presentations & discussions on Maritime Safety, M-SAR organisation, SAR aviation and induction of new technologies. A Table top exercise was also conducted to provide hands-on experience to the participants for better understanding of the planning and execution of SAR operations in coordination with all the concerned agencies and thus work towards an enhanced coordinated response.
The District Commander in the closing address thanked all the agencies for participating in the workshop. He emphasised the need of better coordination and understanding between various agencies for providing effective and timely SAR in the Indian region to make our oceans safe and no loss of life at sea.
