BY A STAFF REPORTER : Currently, there is no significant probability of heavy rainfall in North Bengal. On the contrary, the weather department has forecasted a decrease in rainfall over the next few days. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, may occur in Darjeeling, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri. This trend is expected to lead to a general reduction in rainfall, potentially making the climate somewhat milder. However, from Monday onwards, there is a possibility of increased rainfall in North Bengal, necessitating preparation. This could lead to a drop in temperatures in the hilly regions, providing residents with some relief from the heat.
In contrast, several states are expecting heavy rainfall. Regions including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are predicted to experience significant rainfall. Heavy rains in these areas could result in localized flooding, landslides, and other natural disasters. As a precaution, warnings have been issued and the administration has taken all necessary measures to address potential risks. Special arrangements have been made for areas prone to landslides and other natural calamities.
The weather department has highlighted that the impact of heavy rainfall could disrupt daily life, affecting road transportation, communication systems, and general activities. In particular, low-lying areas may face flooding, which is a cause for concern for local residents. Emergency services, safety measures, and transportation systems need to be carefully managed.
Institutions and offices are advised to maintain safety protocols and emergency plans. Emphasis is being placed on coordinating with local authorities and volunteer organizations to ensure community response. Increased awareness and preparation are being urged to safeguard public safety.
In light of the current situation, an emergency information line has been established for local authorities and citizens. This line is designed to provide quick updates on any natural disasters or weather changes. Awareness campaigns will be conducted to help communities stay informed and take necessary measures during emergencies. According to the weather department, improvements in the weather conditions may be expected within the next 3-5 days.
