The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) celebrated 50 years of the Chipko Movement on Monday, at the Paribesh Bhavan auditorium. The event highlighted the movement's enduring message: “If trees are cut, life is destroyed.”

The occasion was graced by Dr. Kalyan Rudra, Chairman of WBPCB, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, IPS, Principal Secretary, Department of Environment and Member Secretary, WBPCB, and Shri Subrata Ghosh, OSD of WBPCB.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Rajesh Kumar said, “The Chipko Movement reminds us of the inseparable link between trees and life. Protecting the environment is not just a necessity but a duty for everyone.”

As part of the celebration, certificates and prizes were awarded to winners of the "Colour Poster Competition," recognizing creative contributions that promoted environmental awareness.

The program concluded with a call to action for environmental conservation.
