Tathagata Roy
BY A STAFF REPORTER: Former West Bengal BJP President and ex-Tripura governor Tathagata Roy on Friday demanded the Armed Forces Special Powers Act for Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas on 23rd February, Friday
Taking it to his X handle, Tathagata Roy stated that AFSPA is the only solution for unrest-hit Sandeshkhali. Moreover, Roy claimed that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee could potentially ignite street fights if the President's rule (Article 356) is imposed in West Bengal. The AFSP Act grants special powers to the armed forces to maintain law and order in disturbed areas. Enacted in 1958, the act allows security personnel to use force, including shooting to kill in disturbed areas.
