BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a recent statement, former President Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee praised the government's decision to confer Bharat Ratna upon former PM PV Narasimha Rao on 9th February. She also slammed Congress for alienating and side-lining Rao.
Mukherjee alleged that PV Narasimha Rao was neglected by his party and the Gandhi-Nehru family never acknowledged his efforts and contributions. Moreover, she also accused them of not allowing Narasimha's mortal remains in the All India Congress Committee after his death. She emphasized that awarding him Bharat Ratna and recognizing the greatness of a Congress leader is the graciousness and magnanimity of PM Modi's government.
Known for transforming and liberalizing India's economy in the 1990s, former Prime Minister and lawyer, P.V. Narasimha Rao will be conferred India's highest civilian award. Moreover, during his term, Rao appointed Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister who brought an array of economic and liberal reforms to pull the country out of the economic turmoil.
