Purulia: In an effort to promote environmental awareness, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), under the state’s Department of Environment, organized a two-day nature study camp, workshop, and model exhibition at Joychandi Hill Resort, Raghunathpur, on March 4-5. Held under the Mission LiFE program, the initiative aimed to educate students on the importance of environmental conservation, sustainability, and balancing industrial development with ecological preservation.
Dr. Kalyan Rudra, Chairman of the WBPCB, delivered a compelling address, emphasizing the critical need for responsible waste management. He urged students to reflect on their everyday consumption habits and their impact on the environment. "The mobile phone you use has a lifespan of just 2-3 years. Where does it go after that? What happens to the plastic you discard?" he questioned.

He also highlighted Kolkata’s mounting waste crisis, stating, "The city produces 4,500 tons of waste every day, most of which is dumped in places like Dhapa. If we do not act now, waste pollution will spiral out of control."
Through interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, the workshop encouraged students to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. The initiative aimed to inspire young minds to take responsibility for environmental protection and become agents of change in the fight against pollution.
