BY A STAFF REPORTER: A day after PM Modi highlighted the Katchatheevu issue, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari took a jibe at the BJP and recalled the 100th Amendment of the Indian Constitution on April 1, Monday.

Pramod Tiwari claimed that about six lakh Tamils were granted citizenship by the heads of India and Sri Lanka under the Indira-Bandaranaike pact in 1974. He accused the center of hiding this insight and history. Moreover, he recalled that 17,000 acres of Indian Territory were given to Bangladesh in return for 7,000 acres of Bangladesh territory under the One Hundredth Amendment Act, 2015 during the 1st phase of the BJP-led Central Government. He further sought a reply from the Central Government on the uneven exchange of land between the two countries.

The Katchatheevu is a disputed uninhabited island measuring 285 acres in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. Both countries have kept claiming the island since 1921. However, the issue was highlighted again as PM Modi recalled the island in his rally in Meerut on Sunday and took a dig at the Congress over the ceding of Katchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka in 1974.
