BY A STAFF REPORTĒR: A day after the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur on Saturday wrote to the secretary of the Election Commission of India, calling for fresh polls in the Inner Manipur Constituency on 19th April, Friday.

The letter stated that elections in six polling stations were vitiated in the first phase on Friday. The letter maintained that the results in these stations cannot be ascertained.

Cases of mob violence were reported in Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School, Iroisemba Upper Primary School's eastern wing, and Khaidem Makha stations. Moreover, riots took place in Khongman Zone. VVPAT, BUs, and CUs were destroyed by a mob in Iroisemba Upper Primary School's western wing and eastern wing.

The move comes a day after the conclusion of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections was conducted in 102 constituencies across 21 states. Moreover, Tripura recorded the highest voter turnout at 79.90% followed by West Bengal at 77.57%. However, Bihar and Rajasthan recorded the lowest at 47.49% and 50.95% respectively. The second phase is set to begin on April 26. Total voter turnout was recorded at 60%. However, six districts in Nagaland saw almost 0% voter turnout.
