BY A STAFF REPORTER: In a controversial statement, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday accused Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi of instigating violence in the state and asserted that Congress will get relatively fewer seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

As BJP-Congress tensions escalate in Assam, Sarma stressed that Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra conspired to ignite clashes and unrest in the state during the Pran-Pratishtha ceremony. He emphasized that BJP members and Ram devotees abstained from participating in such clashes. "People of Assam will see you in Lok Sabha elections for your arrogance" he added. Apart from this, he categorically stated that Congress will get fewer seats than in previous elections. He further promised that the BJP would defeat Congress by a great margin.

The statement comes after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was prevented from entering Guwahati during Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra on 23rd January which resulted in a clash between the congress workers and Assam district police. Subsequently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the Assam DGP to book Rahul Gandhi for provoking the crowd and violating agreed guidelines. A case registered against Rahul Gandhi under section three of the PDPP Act was transferred to Assam CID yesterday.
