BY A STAFF REPORTER: As the BJP defeated the AAP-Congress alliance in the Chandigarh Mayoral elections, Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that the BJP assassinated Democracy on the same day Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January.

Along with Bhagwant Mann, the AAP National Convener termed it as a black day. Moreover, he stressed that the BJP stole votes blatantly before the cameras. He accused the BJP of winning elections fraudulently.

Shortly after BJP's victory in the Chandigarh Mayor elections, a clash broke out as Congress and AAP counselors accused Manoj Sonkar of winning through illegal means on Tuesday. The Chandigarh Mayor Election results were announced today where BJP's Manoj Sonkar with 15 votes defeated AAP's Kuldeep Kumar, who secured 12 votes.

Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January 1948 in Delhi's Birla House (now Gandhi Smriti) at the age of 78.
