The secondary wing of Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised their Annual Sports Meet 2024 on the 20th of December 2024, Friday, from 10:30 a.m. onwards in the school ground. Smt. Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, renowned Indian athlete and Padma Shri awardee; and Shri. Somnath Dutta, district physical education officer, Youth Welfare, North 24 Parganas graced the event with their presence, along with Dr. Bikram Sarkar, IAS (retd.), Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata Kendra; Director, Dr. G.V. Subramanian; Deputy Director, Smt. Sujata Ghosh; Dr. Siba Prasad Mohapatra, Principal, BIMS; Shri. Arun Kumar Dasgupta, Principal, BGKV; Smt. Monami Chattopadhyay, Vice Principal, BGKV; Smt. Suparna Chatterjee, Headmistress, BGKV and Smt. Chaitali Bhowmik, Asst. Headmistress, BGKV.
The enthusiasm and excitement of students and parents made the sunny day even more bright and cheerful. The chief guests were felicitated with potted saplings. Their speech addressed the importance of sports, team spirit, and healthy competition. The flow of the events started with a graceful and vibrant welcome dance presented by the students. Next, the School Head Boy, Rishi Singh, escorted the dignitaries to the flag poles for the flag hoisting ceremony. Soon the field was reverberating with the tune of Bhavan's Anthem. The pride and love for the school were reflected in every student's face.
The Chairman, Dr. Bikram Sarkar, addressed the gathering and the Sports Meet was then declared open. The march past of the four houses, along with the school NCC group, soon started. The onward march was led by the White House members of the school and accompanied by the school pipe band. Then the ceremonial torch was lit by the outgoing students of the school. After the torch-lighting ceremony, the Oath Taking ceremony was conducted by the Principal, Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta, and everyone pledged to respect and abide by the rules and participate in the spirit of fair play.
An energetic aerobics drill was presented by the boys of classes VI and VII, followed by the drill of girls of classes VI and VII. These performances were a delight to the eyes. After the drill, prizes for the field events were distributed by the dignitaries. This was followed by various track events. The school ground was echoing with cheers of the house members for their respective houses. In the end, the parents, teachers, office staff, ex-students, and outgoing students all participated in 75mts and 50mts run.
Finally, winners of the different track events were declared and prizes were distributed by the dignitaries. The day concluded with the retreating march and the Principal declaring the Annual Sports Meet 2024 closed.
