Arrests smuggler with foreign liquor on the India-Bangladesh border

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Vigilant troops of Various Units under the South Bengal Frontier thwarted drug smuggling on the International border of District Murshidabad, Nadia, and Malda of West Bengal. BSF seized a total of 840 Phensedyl bottles and arrested a smuggler with foreign liquor when smugglers were trying to smuggle these items from India to Bangladesh. The estimated market value of seized Phensedyl and foreign liquor is Rs 1,80,303/-.

According to the information received, the jawans of Border Outpost India One, 73 Battalion, BSF while on duty, saw two suspicious persons on a bicycle with some bags on the border road. When the jawan stopped them, they started running away in fear but due to the alertness of the jawan, one person was caught while the other one ran back towards India. On searching the bags, 8 bottles of foreign liquor were recovered from his bag. On being interrogated, the person said that he was going to give this liquor to some unknown person in Bangladesh.

The arrested person has been identified as Iman Shaikh Son of Jabruddin, Village- Sarandajpur, District Murshidabad.

In the second incident, based on specific intelligence provided by the Intelligence Department of BSF, troops of Border Post New Nadirkhana, 70 Battalion, BSF, laid a special ambush in the suspected area. During the ambush, the team observed the movement of some smugglers who were moving towards the BSF Domination Line from the Indian side. The ambush team challenged them to stop and ran after them to capture them. On seeing the jawans coming towards them, the smugglers ran away from the spot leaving some bags. The ambush party chased them to catch but they escaped from the spot taking advantage of the dense bushes and darkness.  The ambush party conducted a thorough search of the area and recovered 700 Phensedyl bottles. In other incident on the same day, jawans of Border outposts Jeetpur and Matiyari seized a total of 140 Phensedyl bottles from their respective areas of responsibility.

The arrested person and the seized items have been handed over to the concerned department for further legal proceedings.

Shri A.K. Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the success of the jawans. He said that this is a reflection of the vigilance being shown by BSF jawans on duty. He said in strong words that BSF will not allow smuggling or any other kind of crime to take place on the border under any circumstances. He further said that our intelligence department is locating the people involved in this smuggling.
