Annual sports competition of Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir

BY A STAFF REPORTER: The secondary wing of Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir organised the Annual Sports Meet 2023 on the 22nd of December 2023, Friday, from 10:30 a.m. onwards in the school ground. Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee, Honourable Justice (retd.), Calcutta High Court and Smt. Ruma Roy, Ex International Player, Coach, and Chief Archery Coach-SAI and Shri Pranab Nandy, Ex – Bengal Cricketer, graced the event with their presence, along with other dignitaries of the institution. 

The enthusiasm and excitement of students and parents made the sunny day even more bright and cheerful. The day they started with felicitating the chief guests. Their speech addressed the importance of sports, team spirit, and healthy competition.

Then the students presented the welcome dance. Next, the White House members escorted the dignitaries for the flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by the Bhavan’s anthem. The pride and love for the school were reflected on every student’s face.

The march past of the four houses along with the school NCC group soon started. This was led by the White House members of the school and accompanied by the school pipe band. Then the ceremonial torch was lit by the outgoing batch of the school. After the torch-lighting ceremony, the participants pledged to respect and abide by the rules and participate in the spirit of fair play. The Sports Meet was then declared open by the Principal, Mr. Arun Kumar Dasgupta. 

A wonderful and jaw-dropping show of gymnastics was presented by a student of class VI, followed by a colourful and musical drill presentation by the students of classes VI and VII. The boys presented a dumbbell drill with drum beats whereas the girls filled the school ground with colours as they ran across the field with colourful flags in their hands. Several track and field events took place after this.

The students participated with all their heart and soul. The field was reverberating with cheers of the house members for their respective houses. In the end, the parents, teachers, office staff, and ex-students all took part in the 15 m and 75 m run. 

Finally, the winners of different events were awarded by the dignitaries. The day concluded with the retreating march and the principal declared the annual sports meet 2023 closed.
