Kolkata: West Bengal BJP General Secretary and MLA Agnimitra Paul has voiced strong support for the One Nation, One Election initiative, emphasizing its advantages for effective governance. In a recent statement, Paul noted that even Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed concerns about the frequency of elections, which can disrupt government functioning.
“Even our CM would complain of elections being held every other day, which hinders the work and proceedings of the government,” Paul remarked. He stressed that holding Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously would allow for a more stable governance period, enabling elected officials to focus on their duties without the constant distraction of impending elections.
Paul also pointed out the financial implications of frequent elections, stating, “So much of our money is spent on each election.” He argued that consolidating elections would not only reduce costs but also ensure that the full five years of governance could be dedicated to addressing the needs of the people.
As discussions around the One Nation, One Election policy gain momentum, Paul’s comments reflect a broader sentiment within the BJP regarding the potential benefits of this initiative for both governance and fiscal responsibility. His support underscores the party’s commitment to pursuing measures that aim to enhance efficiency in the political system.
