BY A STAFF REPORTER: A day after the release of the CAA (Rules) 2024 notification, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday slammed the newly implemented CAA and asserted that it is a move to take away individuals' rights.

While addressing a rally in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee expressed skepticism over the legality of CAA. She further alleged that 13 lakh Bengali Hindus out of 19 lakh immigrants were eliminated from the list in the name of NRC. She argued that this move would impact the future of them and their children as they may not be granted Indian Citizenship. She maintained that the rights of people will be snatched and they will be termed 'illegal'. Banerjee further stated that people will be taken to detention camps. Moreover, Banerjee challenged the center and asserted that she wouldn't allow anyone to be taken away from Bengal.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019). Furthermore, the newly implemented CAA will be called the 'Citizenship Amendment Act (Rules) 2024'. The Act aims to grant Indian Citizenship to the refugees and migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, Jain, and Christian communities who arrived in India before 31st December 2014 and faced persecution in their homelands.
