The BJP is locked in an intense internal power struggle in Manipur. The saffron party chief of Manipur A Sharda Debi has blamed her own party for the current situation in Manipur. In a quick riposte, the opposite camp led by chief minister N Biren Singh stuck back with a few loyalists in the ministry reposing faith in his leadership. Manipur has been on the boil for the last several months and despite, situation going from bad to worse, Centre has largely remained silent. Although there has been a huge mobilisation of central paramilitary forces and battalions of the Indian Army, the state government under the leadership of chief minister N Biran Singh has failed to control violence.
Senior officials of the Indian Army, and heads of paramilitary forces pinned the blame on local police stating that they are not utilizing the services in proper manner. Houses of BJP leaders including union minister of state for external affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, senior ministers in the state cabinet have been attacked by rampaging mobs, damaged, destroyed and set on fire. The Centre has so far been quiet, drawing criticism from the local BJP.
