Shillong/Ghazipur, June 8 — In a dramatic development in the suspected murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi has been traced to Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and has reportedly surrendered to the local police. The breakthrough comes just a week after Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge in Meghalaya, where the couple had travelled for their honeymoon.

The case took a startling turn when Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma confirmed on social media platform X that the Meghalaya Police had made significant progress. “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved… 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, the female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch 1 more assailant,” Sangma wrote.

According to Meghalaya DGP I. Nongrang, police investigations indicate that Sonam allegedly hired a group of men to murder her husband during the trip. The three men arrested in late-night operations reportedly confessed to the crime and identified Sonam as the mastermind. A fourth suspect remains at large, and a manhunt is underway.

The couple had been missing since May 23, shortly after arriving in Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge under suspicious circumstances. Initial speculation suggested an accident, but the police now allege it was a premeditated murder.

However, Sonam’s family has denied the allegations. Her brother stated that she is in a state of shock, while her father has demanded a CBI investigation into the matter, insisting his daughter is innocent and may have been framed.
