New Delhi: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar has issued a stern warning about the politicization of national security and development, emphasizing that such issues must be addressed through a constitutional lens rather than a political one. His remarks came as a reminder to lawmakers about their duty to uphold the values of democracy and prioritize the nation’s interests.

“If issues of national security or development are viewed through a political prism, we fail to stay true to our oath of the Constitution,” Dhankhar said, underscoring the importance of maintaining integrity in the legislative process.

He further stressed the need for parliamentarians to demonstrate exemplary conduct. “Parliamentarians must demonstrate exemplary conduct that is worthy of emulation,” he added, calling for a higher standard of responsibility in the functioning of Parliament.

Highlighting the critical role of Parliament in addressing the concerns of the people, Dhankhar cautioned that if the institution becomes a forum for political bickering rather than meaningful dialogue, it risks losing its relevance. “If Parliament ceases to be a center of dialogue, debate, and discussion—failing to address the issues of the people—it risks sliding into irrelevance, posing serious threats to our democratic values,” he warned.

The Vice-President's comments come at a time when political tensions in Parliament have escalated, with various parties clashing over issues ranging from national security to economic policies. Dhankhar’s appeal serves as a reminder of the larger responsibility that lawmakers bear in shaping the country’s future and safeguarding its democratic institutions.
