Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed authorities to maintain heightened vigilance across the state’s zoos, bird sanctuaries, national parks, and wetlands in response to a potential threat of H5 avian influenza. The directive includes intensified monitoring of poultry farms and comprehensive health assessments of protected wildlife.
Officials have been tasked with ensuring that staff in all high-risk zones are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and trained to respond swiftly to any signs of infection. Veterinary and forest department teams are to carry out regular inspections, collect samples where necessary, and act on expert recommendations without delay.
The state government’s proactive stance is aimed at preventing any outbreak that could threaten both animal and public health. H5 avian influenza, a highly contagious viral disease, can have severe consequences for poultry farming and wildlife conservation, and in rare cases, poses a risk to humans.
