ROPAR, Punjab – Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has lauded the government’s SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme for transforming property ownership in rural India. Speaking at an event in Ropar, Punjab, Khattar highlighted the significant change brought by the scheme, which ensures that every village house now has proper revenue records.

Khattar noted, “Earlier, the houses in villages used to come under 'Lal Lakir- Lal Dora' and had no revenue record. The owner could not use the property effectively.” These issues, he pointed out, often led to complications for villagers in terms of selling, mortgaging, or using their property for financial gains.

The SVAMITVA scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide a comprehensive land record and mapping system for rural areas, using advanced technology. This initiative not only brings clarity to property ownership but also resolves long-standing issues of unregistered village lands.

“The Prime Minister started this SVAMITVA scheme. Now, every piece of land falls under this scheme. Every house has its revenue record, which will be registered, and the owner can sell it properly,” Khattar explained.

This development marks a significant step toward empowering rural citizens with legal ownership of their properties, improving their ability to access loans, and ensuring a more organized approach to land management.
